Why did you choose teaching as a profession?

I enjoy teaching young adults (17-18 year olds) the importance and relevance of how the government affects them and how the government should operate. At White House High School, I teach Government, Honors Government, Economics, Honors Economics, Advanced Placement United States Government & Politics.

HOW HAS teaching throughout the pandemic CHANGED THE WAy you approach your career?

I have always supported my students academically, but I realized that students cannot always perform at the academic levels they or we want them to perform at when their social and emotional needs are not being addressed for fulfilled. So, I try to be more available in supporting my students in all aspects of their lives.

What is your hope for the career path of teaching in the future?

My hope for the future of the profession is for young people coming into the profession to not be discouraged and to focus on the love of educating students. Public education is a necessity for the success of our country, so we need to encourage young people that teaching is valuable for the collective good.

If the community could better support teachers in one way, what way would it be?

One way that the community could support teachers, especially high school teachers, is to help hold teenagers accountable and to help them learn how to communicate effectively. Overall, the White House community is very supportive of our schools and students.
